Business description
Ahlsell is the leading combined distributor of heating and plumbing, electrical, tools and machinery, refrigeration and DIY products in the Nordic region. The company focuses on five core markets: heating and plumbing, electrical, tools and machinery, refrigeration and DIY, and has outlets in Sweden, Norway, Finland, Denmark, Estonia and Russia. Ahlsell's diversified customer base has access to over 150,000 stock items from over 200 retail outlets.
Cinven strategy
Cinven acquired Ahlsell in 2006, helped by our Business Services sector team's knowledge of the building products distribution marketplace and the experience it had gained through the firm's prior investment in Frans Bonhomme, the French plastic pipes distributor.
Ahlsell has grown by acquiring close to 50 companies since 1996. Significant acquisition opportunities remain: consolidation increases buying power, improves logistics and enables business units to benefit from shared central facilities.
